Sorry, this may be a bit of a rant.
So I was watching the news the other day and they were doing this story on how you keep the Christmas/Holiday spirit in this tough time of economic uncertainty.
Last I checked, I don't need to go out and spend money in order to be in the "spirit" of the season. Yes it's a season and a tradition of giving, but seriously, are we so consumer driven that we have to spend oodles amount of money for it to feel like Christmas? Apparently yes, yes we are.
And then I was listening to the radio and they were debating whether or not it's okay to use coupons, and buy gifts on sale or could this offend your gift receiver. Well heck, if someone is going to be offended because I used a freaken coupon to get a deal, they wouldn't be getting a gift from me in the first place!
Hell, I've never had a whole lot of money to spend on Christmas gifts anyway. I normally try and make gifts, but I'm never that organized in time. So this year, I'm going to the flea market to do some of my shopping. Not only is it cheaper, but it sure beats the shit out of the mall.
WTF people, get over the fact that you can't consume as much as you're used to and just enjoy the freaken holiday.
And while you're at it, get the hell off the roads, you drive like maniacs!
Ok, I could keep going, but it would probably just get off topic and I'd end up deleting it anyway...
....
So, I just plan on spending my time baking cookies, and I think I may even try making chocolates this year too.
I should learn how to make my Mom's spice bread too! There is nothing like the smell of fresh baking that makes me think of Christmas. Yummm ^_^

I hate Christmas more and more every year. xD
... though it is a good excuse to get some more fabric to make something for the new year

I did go all out this year buying presents for my sweetheart, but I got things he actually needs. His stocking is full of practical items.
So yeah, for me, being able to spend a lot is a nice feeling, because his parents have never been well off, so he hasn't had many happy holidays. I don't care about commercialism, I just want to make him happy.
As for coupons and whatnot... I wouldn't give a damn if someone used one for me. During these times, you really shouldn't be picky like that. Besides, as long as it was something that still came from the heart, why does it matter how much it ended up costing?
Shopping at the flea market is a great idea, because there's a better chance of getting something unique.

I am not a social creature, so please don't be offended if I don't respond to your comment or comment on your work before favoriting it
That's one of the reasons we are so consumer driven in the first place. Because everyone would rather just do what's socially acceptable (like consume) to avoid offending anyone who celebrates differently.
Say what you want, wish people a Merry Christmas. If they get offended that you are wishing them well then that's their issue.
If someone wished my Happy Hanukkah I would say thank you, not be offended because I didn't celebrate it.
